Rolling Away the Pain: Brandon Novak Comes Clean

Good day to all! My name is Joseph Samuel and I am ecstatic to welcome you to Sportsef! As you may know, this is my website that aims to provide you guys with authentic sportsbooks reviews that you can really depend on. There will be no sponsored content or paid for reviews on this site! So let’s get started!

The book that I wanted to get into today is an autobiography that was written by Brandon Novak that’s entitled “Dreamseller: An Addiction Memoir”. It’s a relatively new book, I think and it surrounds the skateboard star.

Novak was discovered to be a really talented skateboarder when he was around 7 years of age. He went on to become one of the supposed rising stars that was associated with the sport. Things started to change when he fell into addiction.

This book tackles the topics of addiction and difficult recovery. If you’re not the sort of person who can handle such discussions, this may not be the sort of book that you’ll want to read. It attempts at humor but it falls flat in some places. The trouble when you’re trying to spearhead a discussion about difficult things, it feels disingenuous to try to interject as much laugh points as you can.

There are autobiographies that do handle humor and difficult topics well but this is not one of them. It’s a tad disappointing but it was a bit worse when despite all the platitudes that was shared in this book, Novak went right back to drugs. It takes a lot off the authenticity of the book.

I would not recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something that feeds their need for detail and consistency. I’m still happy that I was able to read this book but if I could take it back, I probably would not buy it again.
